Museo Atlántico in Lanzarote is Europe’s first underwater museum, featuring over 300 sculptures by artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Located at depths of 12-15 meters, it offers divers and snorkelers a unique blend of art and marine life, creating an artificial reef that attracts various species. The site is designed to promote ocean conservation and provides an unforgettable underwater experience in the clear waters of the Atlantic.

The artificial reef created by the sculptures attracts various species, including: Angel Sharks: Often seen resting on the sandy seabed. Barracudas: Frequently spotted swimming around the sculptures. Octopuses: Hiding in crevices or among the sculptures. Damselfish: Small, colorful fish that swim in schools around the site. Groupers: Large, solitary fish that may be seen near the sculptures. Wrasses: Including rainbow and cleaner wrasses, adding vibrant colors to the underwater scene. Moral Eels: Found lurking in the shadows of the sculptures. Rays: Occasionally gliding over the sandy areas near the sculptures. Sea Bream: Commonly seen schooling around the structures. The artificial structures have encouraged the growth of algae and other organisms, enhancing the site’s attractiveness to marine species and creating a rich underwater ecosystem.
