How do we calculate the HUP rating? Take a look at what we consider and see how we aim to provide a rating from the diver’s perspective to help you form an image of the dive center. All HUP reviews are based on the personal experiences of people/divers connected to our project.

How we rate
Each parameter we evaluate is assigned a score on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best and 1 being the worst. A score of ‘zero’ means that no rating has been given yet.
Scoring Breakdown for Each Parameter
1. Services Offered (Max: 5 points)
1 – No additional services (e.g., only basic dives)
2 – Limited services (e.g., basic dives and entry-level certifications only)
3 – Basic offerings (e.g., standard dives, beginner courses, and certifications)
4 – Good range of services (e.g., a variety of dives, certifications, and specialty courses)
5 – Excellent range of services (e.g., multiple certifications, night dives, photography dives, marine conservation)
2. Gear Quality and Maintenance (Max: 5 points)
1 – No gear rental available or gear in very poor condition
2 – Limited gear selection, with some maintenance issues
3 – Basic gear available and reasonably maintained
4 – Good-quality gear, well-maintained with a wide selection of sizes and types
5 – Excellent quality, professionally maintained gear, with a comprehensive selection
3. Facilities (Max: 5 points)
1 – No facilities (e.g., no changing rooms, showers, or lockers)
2 – Limited facilities (e.g., basic changing areas but no showers or secure lockers)
3 – Basic facilities (e.g., changing areas and lockers, but minimal amenities)
4 – Good facilities (e.g., clean showers, lockers, classroom, etc.)
5 – Excellent facilities (e.g., spacious, clean, fully equipped with secure lockers, showers, and classroom)
4. Staff Professionalism and Friendliness (Max: 5 points)
1 – Unprofessional and unhelpful staff
2 – Limited professionalism, with some issues in staff knowledge or behavior
3 – Basic professionalism and friendliness (staff meets minimum expectations)
4 – Good level of professionalism, with knowledgeable and friendly staff
5 – Excellent professionalism, staff is highly experienced, knowledgeable, and exceptionally friendly
5. Location and Accessibility (Max: 5 points)
1 – Very hard to access, far from dive sites and accommodations
2 – Difficult to access or inconvenient location
3 – Moderately accessible, reasonable travel to dive sites
4 – Convenient location with easy access to dive sites and nearby facilities
5 – Ideal location, very close to dive sites, easy to reach, and near key attractions
6. Diver Safety and Emergency Protocols (Max: 5 points)
1 – No safety protocols or emergency procedures in place
2 – Minimal safety measures, lacking emergency preparedness
3 – Basic safety protocols, adequate for regular dives
4 – Good safety protocols, with reliable emergency measures
5 – Excellent safety standards, well-prepared for emergencies with advanced safety training
7. Environmental Responsibility (Max: 5 points)
1 – No efforts towards environmental protection, harmful practices
2 – Minimal environmental responsibility
3 – Basic awareness, with some conservation efforts
4 – Good environmental practices, like educating divers on marine protection
5 – Outstanding environmental responsibility, active in conservation efforts, and eco-friendly policies
8. Value for Money (Max: 5 points)
1 – Very poor value, overpriced for services provided
2 – Limited value, pricing does not align with service quality
3 – Basic value for money, prices match the average quality of services
4 – Good value, with pricing that reflects quality services
5 – Excellent value, competitive pricing with high-quality services
Final score - Our Rating
Final Score (Our Rating) = Sum of all Parameters ÷ Number of Parameters.
In other words, it’s the average of the scores the dive center received across all Parameters.
